In the last five years, attitudes towards the medical applications of hemp and especially cannabidiol have evolved significantly. Cannabis’ importance to our health is becoming increasingly accepted, as evidenced by hemp being named “medicinal plant of the year” this year. Recent studies have confirmed positive effects on various diseases such as rheumatism, schizophrenia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, strokes, epilepsy and even cancer.
But what exactly makes the hemp plant such a natural “miracle cure”?
Hemp’s positive effects are due to the cannabidiol (CBD), one of the two most important and frequent ingredients of hemp. Cannabidiol is a substance obtained from certain varieties of the cannabis plant. In contrast to the active ingredient tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC), which is most commonly found in hemp, CBD is free of psychoactive properties, meaning it has no negative effects on the brain and does not make you “high”. For this reason, cannabidiol is legal in most countries. CBD has a strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect and is able to reduce or even cure many mental and physical issues.

The successes of Cannabidiol
Cannabidiol – the star among the ingredients of hemp has been making headlines again and again in recent years. Due to the increasing number of scientific studies on CBD, in which its medical effect on various diseases was examined, it could be determined that the intake of cannabidiol has special advantages in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and cancer, as well as in children with seizures.
Since a law prohibiting the use or general handling of hemp came into force, studies that could prove that cannabis can contribute to health have been ignored or forgotten. Many studies published to date, which have confirmed the successful treatment of various diseases, have been sidelined as a result of the “fight against drugs”.
Cannabidiol can prevent cancer, reduce diabetes by 58 percent and reduce heart attacks by 66 percent.
In 2012, an eight-month-old baby with a brain tumor was successfully treated with cannabidiol. In another study, it was observed how the condition of epilepsy patients has improved as a result of taking CBD. In some, the incidence of seizures was reduced, and in some they did not occur at all.
According to Dr. William Courtney, who has studied cannabis research in depth, the intake of cannabidiol can prevent cancer, reduce diabetes by 58% and reduce heart attacks by 66%. CBD also has anxiety-relieving properties and can therefore also reduce anxiety. Over the past ten years, further studies have confirmed the therapeutic benefits of CBD in diseases such as Alzheimer’s, rheumatism, nausea, Parkinson’s, seizures and strokes. Recent studies have shown great progress in the treatment of nerve pain, seizure disorders, craniocerebral trauma and cancer.
With all these applications, we should certainly hear more about cannabis, the “medicinal plant of the year” of 2018.
