Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) makes life especially; difficult for about a quarter of women, especially from the age of 30: the ups and downs of hormones in the days before the onset of a period often leads to mood swings, cramps in the abdomen, headaches, back pain, or even anxiety.
In 5% of women, these fluctuations in physical and mental well-being are so severe that the quality of life is considerably reduced.
B vitamins make sure that women are less affected by hormone fluctuations before their periods.
What vitamins B1 and B2 can do
With the help of orthomolecular medicine, the suffering of the affected women can be considerably alleviated without side effects, according to an English study with over 3,000 participants.
In particular, the B vitamins thiamine (B1) and riboflavin (B2) ensured that more than one third of the study participants suffered from PMS less frequently than women in the comparison group with the lowest B1 and B2 intake.
Calcium and vitamin D facilitate PMS
In addition to the vitamins thiamine and riboflavin, the researchers also found evidence that the two bone nutrients calcium and vitamin D can alleviate the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
In particular for the use of calcium with PMS there is very good data for a longer time. Among other things a study evaluation confirmed over micro nutrients and PMS the easing effect of calcium.
